Writer's Glossary
This is a work in progress, guys, so bear with me.
It occurred to me as I was writing a post today that not everyone knows what SEO copywriting is. And then it occurred to me that it would be onerous to stop in the middle of the brilliant post I was composing to explain it. And then it occurred to me that a glossary would be just the ticket.
So here it is.
I'll be adding entries to it as words occur to me and as I can tear myself away from writing other posts and pages.
Keyword A keyword is a word an internet surfer (aka, you) feeds into a search engine (aka, Google). It can be a word or a phrase.
Keyword density Keyword density is a phrase used to denote how many times a keyword is repeated in a piece of copy. If there is a keyword density of 3% in a 500 word article, the keyword would be repeated 15 times. Yes, this is why you often read convoluted prose on the internet.
SEO Search Engine Optimization
SEO copy SEO copy is writing that is designed to rank high on search engines, like the very first page. There's a formula to SEO that people think they know but aren't really sure, because Google is the master at it and they keep things secret. What we are pretty certain we know about SEO is that it is related to the repeated usage of Keywords (see seperate entry). Thus, if you ever land on a website where they have used home foreclosures in Chicago or some such phrase in all sorts of tortured ways, you have found yourself in the land of SEO. It also has to do with the number of pages on a website or blog and other arcane formulations.
